Christmas Events

chistmass-eventsGift Drive for Needy Kids We use this annual party for the children as a tool of motivation to study diligently and make different efforts during their school year. Working with the teachers and the directors of the schools where we have carried out different projects during the year, we hold an event that focuses on the Christmas event of “SONRISAS”.

The focus is the prize of participating in “SONRISAS” to the best students of the past year as well as those who are living in conditions of extreme poverty at home. For every school there is an amount of 200 to 300 children who qualify and sometimes even more. The average total quantity for the “SONRISAS” event is 3,000 children every year. It has, so far, been a great success and continues to grow.

Praise and Worship Team

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

worshipIn February of this year we formed a praise and worship ministry; a Christian musical group.
We strongly believe that music is an influential tool in the field of the younger generation as well as in general. Through the words of our songs we can make them conscience about diverse basic topics like: a personal relation with Jesus Christ, restoring values and the way of living among others. Also, it is a strategic way to make an impact on the controversial population.
If you wish to have us be apart of an activity or wish to develop a program in your community, send us an e-mail.

Food Distribution

food-distroFood Sharing One of the most basic needs we meet on a regular basis is that of providing food for people who have little or none. Such projects include providing meals and also organizing and distributing donations of non-perishable food products for families in need.

One such project was the “Kamuk School Food Sharing Day”. This school is a private elementary and secondary school in a middle to upper-middle class neighborhood. Kamuk parents, working with Conexion, chipped in and donated food such as beans, rice, cereals, canned food, etc.

Once the food drive was completed we organized a field trip with the Kamuk kids and took the donations over to La Carpio, a terribly impoverished area of San José. The food was distributed to the families of children who attend La Carpio’s public schools. We were able facilitate a wonderful exchange of love and friendship between two school and many families!

Public School Improvement

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

school-improvementPublic schools in Costa Rica present a unique opportunity to invest in people’s lives and make a difference among the poor and needy in our society.

Too often public schools lack the funds to maintain even basic facilities in which to teach children.

The buildings are in disrepair, they are inadequate for the number of children attending, there are never enough lunches to go around, and many times the children have to eat in shifts because there aren’t enough plates and eating utensils.

Housing Solutions

house-buildingWe were able to build a house with basic comforts for this family by combining forces with businesses and individuals that were willing to donate material, money, and time.

“Project Arabella” Arabella Fallas was a widow who cared for her four grandchildren. She lived in conditions of extreme poverty in an area of San José, Costa Rica, called El Sector Siete de Los Guido de Desamparados. She suffered from partial paralysis and other ailments that kept her from raising her family in conditions that would be considered “normal.” The house they lived in left them exposed to the inclement weather conditions experienced on a daily basis in Costa Rica. During the rainy season, they struggled to keep the water out of their house. During the dry season, that same house was a suffocating oven because of the heat.

We had the privilege of buidling her a new home!
